Post-Awareness Events lead to Action Planning

In partnership with the Muncie Action Plan Steering Committee, TEAMwork and the other Poverty Awareness Week Leadership Partners will host a “Moving to Action” meeting to create a plan for solving issues facing people in poverty.  The session, open to the public, will be Wednesday evening, April 11, from 6:30-8 at the Innovation Connector, 1208 W. White River Boulevard, Muncie.

Some of these issues were identified in the Delaware County Poverty Awareness Week activities attended by 776 local residents last month.  Consensus from those attending the 30 events hosted during a nine-day period was that the Delaware County community should move on to developing an action plan to address at least some of the problems that were showcased.

“Ranging from employer difficulties in retaining low-income employees to problems parents living in poverty have in funding their children’s participation in extracurricular school activities, the issues are complex,” said Molly Flodder, executive director of TEAMwork for Quality Living, the project manager of the awareness week activities. “This session will give us an opportunity to list, prioritize and zero in on what we can do as a community to augment the hard work our local service agencies are already doing.”

Local business consultant Brian “B.J” McKay, in his role as executive director of The Leadership Board, will lead the strategic planning session.  There will also be opportunities for people to sign up to volunteer for local organizations serving people living in poverty.

Because of limited space, reservations are required and may be made to 747-7158 or americorps@teamworkql.org
